I was an ignorant girl from Kansas (where the biggest body of water for 300 miles is the municipal swimming pool) when the capn started talking about sailing. Within 5 years I was living onboard a sailboat 6 months out of the year, then 12 months out of the year, and now back to 6 months out of the year. Hopefully, I can share some of the lessons I have learned and observations I have made. All from a First Mate's point of view.

I admit to being a novice cruiser and blogger. As stated in the blog, if my wife and I can cruise; anybody can cruise. Our old Cargile may not compare with the DeFevers, Atlas Acadias, Mainships, and host of others we dock beside, but it gets us there and usually gets a lot of attention. Our blog is to share cruising and boating experiences from a novice point of view. We’ll leave the professional point of view to the Tom & Mel Neales of cruising; we’ve learned much from their writing.
Your comments are always welcome.

Our Hunter 450 was originally owned by Dr. Kurt Mikat who named it "Meine Katze" which we're sure worked well for him. He had it in the Great Lakes for two years before moving to Florida. Then the hurricanes arrived, and he apparently lost interest in owning a boat in this area. Don't blame hime. So it sat neglected for a couple of years in the corner of a boatyard waiting for us to come along. We couldn't be happier!
